Philadelphia Phillies infielder Bryson Stott showed improvement in his sophomore season in 2023 after a disappointing rookie year in 2022.
He took on the role of full-time second baseman for the team, which benefited him both offensively and defensively.
Stott had a batting average of .280 with 32 doubles, 15 home runs, 62 RBI, and 31 stolen bases, while also showcasing strong defensive skills, establishing himself as one of the top second basemen in the National League.
Despite his progress in the previous season, Stott’s performance regressed in 2024. His WAR dropped from 4.3 in ’23 to 2.5 in 2024, with fewer doubles, home runs, and RBI, along with a significant decrease in batting average from .280 to .245.
However, there were some bright spots, as Stott remained a threat on the base paths, stealing a team-leading 32 bases in 148 games. He also improved his strikeouts (100 in ’23 to 93 in 2024), increased his walks (39 BBs in 2023 to 53 in 2024), and was a finalist for the NL Gold Glove Award for the second consecutive year, although he lost to the Milwaukee Brewers’ Brice Turang.
