The Miami Dolphins started the offseason by allowing some of their homegrown talent to leave the team. Some players were offered lucrative contracts elsewhere, while others, like Andrew Van Ginkle, were not even given an offer by Miami. This decision seems questionable, especially considering Van Ginkle’s performance after leaving the team. Despite this, the Dolphins made several free agent signings which eased some of the fans’ concerns. However, one glaring oversight remains – the lack of a solid backup quarterback to support Tua Tagovailoa in case of injury.
Unfortunately, Tua suffered an injury early in the season and has only recently returned. With the team’s disappointing 2-5 record, the prospects of a successful season seem bleak. While there is a slim chance of turning things around, the more likely outcome is a difficult road ahead. The question then arises – when should the Dolphins’ front office consider trading assets, especially older players, to acquire draft picks for the future?
