McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has revealed that he had claimed his maiden F1 victory with a broken rib, having been racing with a serious injury in Budapest and at Spa.
Piastri shared a post on his Instagram account to celebrate the summer break, disclosing that he has been dealing with an injury for several weeks.
Along with a selection of images from the opening phase of the season, Piastri captioned his post: “First part of the season done. First GP victory. First broken bone. Rib’s enjoying the break.”
The McLaren driver shared an image from what appears to be an ultrasound scan which shows he has suffered a fracture to his sixth rib. The date on the ultrasound reads ‘July 8th 2024’, suggesting it was taken on the Monday following the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
