The Golden State Valkyries have completed their WNBA Expansion Draft, but they still have more moves to make. They can add players through free agency, trades, and with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. UCLA standout Lauren Betts has caught their attention with her recent performance.
ESPN’s Michael Voepel released a 2025 WNBA Mock Draft on November 17, before the Valkyries’ expansion draft. Despite that, Voepel had Golden State choosing Betts. With players now on the roster, the team must decide if Betts is still the right choice.
Betts, a 21-year-old center standing at 6’7″, presents an opportunity for the Valkyries to build around her. Adding Betts to their roster would strengthen the team and provide options for trading centers for positions in need.
Following a standout performance in UCLA’s win over Washington, where Betts scored 23 points and contributed in other areas, it is clear she could be a star player for the Valkyries.
Betts’ strong play this season, averaging double-double figures in rebounds and points, makes her an attractive prospect for the upcoming WNBA Draft. Other teams are likely monitoring her performance closely.
While there is competition for Betts in the draft, the Valkyries will surely consider selecting her with their No. 5 pick if she remains available. The team may also look to add a guard to complement Betts in their first WNBA Draft.
