PWHL Takes Women’s Hockey on the Road in 2025 Takeover Tour
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Following the successful “Takeover Weekends” in Detroit and Pittsburgh last season, the PWHL announced on Monday that the league will be launching a Takeover Tour in nine new markets across the US and Canada this winter.

The tour will involve shifting nine 2024/25 regular-season games to neutral locations, with players competing primarily in NHL arenas.

All six teams – the Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montréal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge, and Toronto Sceptres – will play a minimum of two tour matches. Ottawa and Montréal will have four off-site games each.

Amy Scheer, PWHL SVP of business operations, expressed, “When exploring possible locations for a PWHL game, the excitement from cities eager to connect with our League was very encouraging.”

The tour will kick off in Seattle on January 5th and travel to Vancouver, Denver, Québec City, Buffalo, Raleigh, and Detroit before concluding in St. Louis on March 29th. An additional city hosting Toronto and Ottawa on February 16th will be announced soon.

Audience growth and league expansion fuel PWHL tour

With two new teams joining the PWHL for the 2025/26 season, the Takeover Tour enables the league to test potential expansion markets while increasing fan interest across North America.

According to Scheer, “Bringing PWHL games to fans in both countries is a natural progression as we continue to grow our audience.”

“The PWHL Takeover Tour allows us to showcase our game and exceptional athletes to a broader North American audience – an exciting moment for our players and a significant step for our business as we look towards expansion,” she added.
