The Toronto Raptors and center Bruno Fernando adjusted his contract before he officially joined the opening night roster. Originally, Fernando’s contract was supposed to be fully guaranteed on opening night, but it was changed to be guaranteed on the league-wide date of January 10.
This change was crucial in determining whether Fernando would be a part of the team or not. If the experienced big man hadn’t agreed to the revised guaranteed date, the Raptors would have released him.
Now, Toronto has more flexibility with their roster moving forward. With multiple players sidelined due to injuries, the Raptors won’t be obligated to pay a fully guaranteed salary if they need to make a roster change.
