Ravens’ Lamar Jackson misses practice with ankle injury

Lamar Jackson did not practice on Wednesday and was listed with an ankle injury.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh described it as the “same type of situation” as last week when Jackson did not practice on Wednesday but played against the Browns.

The difference is that Jackson missed last week with knee soreness but now he has an ankle problem.

Harbaugh said it was in the quarterback’s “best interest” to practice.

Jackson missed three games this season with a hamstring injury.

The former MVP practiced last Thursday after missing Wednesday’s practice so whether he practices this Thursday will be an indicator if he is ready to play against the Jets on Sunday.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn spoke about Jackson’s value to the Ravens on Wendesday.

“When it comes to this game, looking at Baltimore, they’re an organization that a number of people look at and try to emulate because of the way they operate,” Glenn said. “When it comes to their players, obviously on offense, Lamar and Derrick [Henry] are two guys you’ve got to get ready to watch out for, which opens up a lot of opportunities for Zay [Flowers] in the passing game.”

Jackson was not the only big name to miss practice for Baltimore. Safety Kyle Hamilton (shoulder, groin), linebacker Roquan Smith (hamstring) and left tackle Ronnie Stanley (illness) all missed practice, too.

While the Jets are moving to Tyrod Taylor at quarterback this week, there are some fans that would like to see the team play rookie Brady Cook instead. Cook, an undrafted free agent from Missouri, has not played at all as a rookie.

Glenn said he is still learning.

“Still developing. He’s still developing,” Glenn said of Cook. “And listen, there’s been a plan for him from the very beginning and I wanted to make sure we do what’s right for him. And who knows, we’ll see what happens as the season progresses. I’m not promising anything, but he knows exactly what his role is when it comes to this team, but I’ll say right now Tyrod is our starter.”

DE Will McDonald IV (quad) and DT Harrison Phillips (foot) did not practice Wednesday but Glenn said he expects them to play Sunday. … CB Azareye’h Thomas practiced Wednesday and Glenn said he is expected to be cleared from the concussion protocol.
