Angel Reese received financial assistance from Lonzo Ball of the Chicago Bulls after being fined by the WNBA in her rookie season.
The Chicago Sky player was ejected from a game against the New York Liberty on June 4 but later had the second technical foul rescinded by the league.
Ball, who was in attendance at the game, offered to cover Reese’s fine, stating, “Keep ya money Angel I got you.” Not only did Ball follow through on his promise, he actually gave Reese more money than necessary, as she revealed on her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast.
“So you gave me $2,000. Do you know how much my fine actually was?” Reese questioned Ball. “It was only $200.”
Ball informed Reese that he had contacted the then-Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon to ensure she received the money.
“That was a terrible tech,” Ball commented. “I was actually at that game, my first WNBA game ever.”
During her rookie season, Reese averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. She also set multiple WNBA records, including the single-season rebounding mark.
