Jack Flaherty has been performing exceptionally well this season with a 2.95 ERA and high strikeout rates. Yusei Kikuchi also has solid strikeout and walk numbers but has had some struggles with home runs.
Astros GM Dana Brown discussed the team’s pursuit of starting pitchers, mentioning they are looking for a third or fourth starter to complement their rotation. While Flaherty has been performing at a high level, Kikuchi may be a more realistic target for the team.
The Astros are open to acquiring a rental pitcher, with Jacob Melton being their only Top 100 prospect. The Tigers could ask for Melton in a potential Flaherty deal.
Flaherty and Kikuchi have different salary figures for the season, and the Astros are willing to add salary if needed to secure a starting pitcher.
