It is no secret that the Los Angeles Dodgers are in search of starting pitching before the trade deadline. Their rotation has been hit hard by injuries, with uncertain return dates for some players.
Rumors suggest that the Dodgers have been in talks with the Chicago White Sox regarding Garrett Crochet, but due to the unpredictable nature of the deadline, they have also reached out to the Detroit Tigers about Tarik Skubal.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Tigers are in discussions with the Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles concerning Skubal. However, Nightengale mentions that a trade for Skubal is unlikely.
He stated, “It’s a longshot that Skubal will be traded, but the Tigers are listening and will only move him if they receive an overwhelming offer.”
If Detroit manager A.J. Hinch has any say, Skubal won’t be going anywhere. Hinch made his stance clear when asked about the rumors during a recent interview on a local Detroit radio station, saying, “I want to buy.”
With a record of 49-50 and five games behind the final American League Wild Card spot, the Tigers are still in contention. If they decide to buy, they have a chance at making a postseason run.
Skubal, a 27-year-old ace, is under contract for two more years after the 2024 season. He boasts a 10-3 record, a 2.41 ERA, a 0.88 WHIP, a 6.7 K/BB ratio, and 116.0 innings pitched in 19 starts.
While Skubal would be a valuable addition to the Dodgers’ rotation, it seems unlikely that the Tigers will part ways with him. Moving him would likely be a mistake on their part.
