Reports indicate that Nolan Arenado, a potential trade target for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has blocked a move to the Houston Astros, as stated by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, John Denton, and Brian McTaggart.
Recent news has also revealed Teoscar Hernandez’s contract desires — should the Dodgers consider offering him a deal?
The Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals were in talks about a trade involving Arenado going to Houston, but Arenado made it clear to the Cardinals that he would not waive his no-trade clause for the Astros, effectively putting an end to those discussions.
It was reported that “The Cardinals were willing to send $15-20 million to the Astros as part of the deal to help cover Arenado’s salary.” However, it seems that Houston is no longer a potential destination for the talented player.
Although the Dodgers were among the six teams on Arenado’s wish list, recent developments have suggested otherwise. Despite speculation fueled by Arenado himself on Instagram with the song “dodger blue,” Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes confirmed that Max Muncy will remain the starting third baseman, casting doubt on the possibility of acquiring Arenado.
With Muncy at third base and Freddie Freeman at first base, there doesn’t seem to be a place for Arenado in Los Angeles. Additionally, the Dodgers may be hesitant to take on the remaining three years and $74 million on his contract.
While a trade to the Dodgers may be unlikely, a move to the Astros is no longer an option.
In addition to the Dodgers, other teams on Arenado’s reported wish list include the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox.
