The Los Angeles Dodgers are known for their lavish spending and sparing no expense when it comes to top talent, and it seems to have paid off last season, as it ended with the franchise’s eighth World Series championship.
A top baseball insider revealed that the Dodgers have another major expense to add to the list that no other team has, and one that won’t show up on the 40-man roster: A second team plane.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale recently reported that in addition to a plane carrying coaches, team officials, and equipment to their road games, a second plane solely dedicated to players can be found on the Dodgers’ expenses sheet.
“They are the first team to use two planes on all of their road trips — one that is restricted only to the players — costing the team a minimum of at least $6 million.”
Almost a tenth of the total payroll for the Miami Marlins this season is what the Dodgers are using just to get their players to road games.
The kind of dedication that the organization gives to their players isn’t just in contracts, as the treatment of their team is second to none in MLB.
Dodger Stadium is the third-oldest ballpark in baseball, but players could hardly tell, given the expanded training facilities, additional batting cage, and three-story clubhouse built underneath the field. The millions of dollars poured into the team in areas completely unseen by fans is unprecedented in the current state of MLB.
Veteran third baseman Max Muncy spoke this past offseason on the new renovations, but also the treatment of players becoming expected from the team.
“It’s hard to put into words,” said Muncy. “You get so used to something being there and you come in and you have no idea where you’re at. It’s really cool. It’s what you’d expect out of the Dodgers.”
Are two planes and constant renovations necessary? Not at all.
The attention to detail and prioritizing those who take the field every day is something that other baseball owners should take note of, and something that will benefit the Dodgers for years to come.
