The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated veteran reliever Ryan Brasier for assignment to make room for right-handed reliever Kirby Yates. Brasier had emerged as a trade candidate for the Dodgers a few weeks ago, but will now be DFA’d instead.
The Dodgers can still try to find a trade partner for him this week. The Dodgers have a total of 10 days to find a landing spot for Brasier via trade, and there’s a good chance they will.
However, if they don’t, he’ll head to waivers where he can be claimed by any team.
Brasier joined the Dodgers midway through the 2023 season after he was cut by the Boston Red Sox. After having a 7.29 ERA with Boston, he had a 0.70 ERA across 39 appearances with L.A.
In 2024, Brasier made just 29 appearances due to injury, sporting a 3.54 ERA.
Once the Dodgers signed Tanner Scott and Yates, he became the obvious odd man out in the bullpen. Now, he’s officially been DFA’d as the Dodgers needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for Yates.
Yates had a 1.17 ERA across 61 appearances with the Texas Rangers last season. He made the All-Star Game for the second time in his career.
