The Los Angeles Dodgers designated former All-Star reliever Alexis Diaz for assignment last week. It didn’t take long for him to find a new home.
On Sunday, the Atlanta Braves claimed Diaz off waivers, as the National League squad will now look to get Diaz back to his old form. As for the Dodgers, they officially lose Diaz after a failed experiment that resulted in just nine MLB games.

The Dodgers took a chance on Diaz in late May, acquiring him from the Cincinnati Reds for right-handed pitching prospect Mike Villani. Diaz was in Triple-A at the time after making just six big league appearances for Cincinnati this season, allowing eight earned runs to the tune of a 12.00 ERA.
The Dodgers wanted to take a shot at fixing the 2023 All-Star who was still just 28 years old. However, it didn’t turn out to be a successful endeavor.
Diaz made nine big league appearances with LA, allowing five earned runs for a 5.00 ERA with nine strikeouts. He was even worse at Triple-A Oklahoma City, sporting an ERA of 8.10 across 10 innings of work.
The Dodgers officially DFA’d Diaz last week to clear a spot on the 40-man roster when they called up Ben Rortvedt following Will Smith’s injury. Now, he’s heading to Atlanta, where he’ll look to get his career back on track with a team that doesn’t have playoff aspirations this season.

The Braves are currently 64-79 and already looking ahead to next season. If they can get Diaz even close to his 2023 form, he could be a key piece of their bullpen in 2026 when they expect to be back in contention.
Alexis Diaz Career Stats
Diaz has appeared in 205 games at the MLB level across the Reds and Dodgers, accruing a 3.29 ERA over 202.1 innings with 75 saves.
His best season was his rookie year in 2022, when he had a 1.84 ERA over 63.2 innings. He was then an All-Star in 2023, when he finished with a 3.07 ERA and 37 saves across 67.1 innings of work.
