The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated Max Muncy off the injured list after a month-long absence. He’s replacing Tommy Edman on the roster, who’s heading to the IL with a right ankle injury.

Muncy has been out since early July after suffering a freak knee injury when Chicago White Sox outfielder Michael A. Taylor slid into his leg.
Muncy was initially expected to miss a minimum of six weeks, but he made incredible progress, and is back just over a month after sustaining the injury.
The Dodgers lineup has greatly missed Muncy, who was hitting .304 with 12 home runs and an OPS of 1.009 over his last 47 games before the injury. Overall on the season, the left-handed slugger is hitting .250 with an OPS of .832.

As for Edman, the utility man has been battling an ankle injury since May, when he initially went on the IL with right ankle inflammation. He tweaked it again in Sunday’s game while rounding first base and left in the top of the fifth inning.
Edman got off to a strong start this season, hitting .252 with eight home runs and an OPS of .818 in March and April. He’s been struggling since May, though, hitting just .214 with four home runs and an OPS of .596.
With Edman on the IL, rookie Alex Freeland should get an extended run at the MLB level, potentially earning some playing time at second base. On Monday, Miguel Rojas is playing second base.
