Former Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Chris Taylor has come to a contract agreement with the Los Angeles Angels, per the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
Heyman did not confirm whether the deal is for the major or minor leagues. Taylor spent most of 2025 with the Angels after the Dodgers released him early in the regular season. The veteran commented on his future in MLB in January, revealing to Dodger Talk’s David Vassegh he wanted to continue playing.
“Oh no, I’m still playing,” Taylor said. “Don’t pull the cord on me yet, Vassegh. No, I’m still playing. I’m down here in Arizona working out. Um, you know, I… I don’t know where it’s going to be yet, obviously with free agency being the way it is, but, um, I will be playing again this coming season.”
How Long Was Chris Taylor With the Dodgers?
Taylor came to the Dodgers in 2016 from the Seattle Mariners via trade, and instantly added offense to the lineup.
In his first full season with L.A., Taylor hit 21 home runs — which remains his career high — and posted an .850 OPS. He continued to post solid numbers with the Dodgers over the following eight seasons, even making the NL All-Star Team in 2021.
Taylor won two World Series with the Dodgers and will get a ring for their win in 2025, and also has an NLCS MVP award to his name.
With the Dodgers, he hit 108 home runs and drove in 423 runs.
What Happened to Chris Taylor After the Dodgers Released Him?
The Angels signed Taylor after the Dodgers released him, but he barely played for the Halos due to injury. He first suffered a fracture his hand against the Athletics in June 2025, then re-aggravated the injury upon his return in July 2025.
He made 30 total appearances for the Angels last season, hitting two home runs and driving in 10 runs while keeping a .599 OPS. The Angels lack depth in both the outfield and infield, so keeping a utility man like Taylor around could be to their benefit.
Taylor was a great defensive piece at his peak and could definitely help out the Angels with his glove, as they finished dead last in MLB with minus-54.
