Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Tim Locastro officially joined the San Diego Padres’ coaching staff as their base running and outfield coordinator under new manager Craig Stammen.

Locastro had spent the final two years of his playing career, 2024 and 2025, at the Triple-A level in the Padres’ organization. The veteran is more than qualified to fill the role, having excelled both in the outfield and on the base paths. He never recorded a negative fielding run value during his seven-year MLB tenure, and stole 45 bases in 50 tries throughout his career.

When Did Tim Locastro Play For the Dodgers?

The Dodgers acquired Locastro in a minor league trade with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015, sending right-handed pitching prospect Chase De Jong in exchange.

Locastro moved up through the minors with the Dodgers over the next two years, jumping from High-A Rancho Cucamonga to Triple-A Oklahoma City in just two seasons. He had a fantastic 2017 season in Triple-A, posting a .987 OPS through 31 games with a .388 batting average.

L.A. rewarded Locastro for his hard work, calling him up to the majors for the final three games of the regular season against the Colorado Rockies. He featured in all three games but stepped up to the plate just once, failing to reach base.

Locastro had two more stints with the Dodgers the following season, playing in 18 games for the MLB team. Despite the increased opportunity, the outfielder struggled at the plate and posted a .630 OPS with a .182 batting average through 11 at-bats.

After the end of the season, the Dodgers designated Locastro for assignment.

Where Did Tim Locastro Play?

The Yankees claimed Locastro off waivers, but designated him for assignment themselves just two months later. The Arizona Diamondbacks picked him up next, and he found a spot on their team in 2019. He played 91 games that season, posting a .697 OPS, then had another solid year in the shortened 2020 season, posting a .859 OPS.

His production dipped with the D-Backs the following season, though, and they traded him to the Yankees in July 2021. The Yankees had a much smaller role for Locastro, playing him in just 47 games across the season and a half they had him.

After the 2022 season, Locastro ended up with the New York Mets in 2023 — which would be his last MLB season. The outfielder had a lifetime .664 OPS through 290 big league games, and will now shift his focus to his new role with one of the Dodgers’ division rivals.
