Los Angeles Dodgers fan favorite Kiké Hernandez revealed his desire to be traded following his arrival in LA in 2015.

Hernandez came to the Dodgers after 2014 in a big trade with the Miami Marlins, which sent Dee Gordon, Dan Haren and Miguel Rojas to south Florida for Hernandez, Andrew Heaney, Chris Hatcher and Austin Barnes. The Dodgers had a stacked roster heading into the 2015 season, and Hernandez didn’t think he’d have a place in LA.

“I was hoping I’d be traded again because looking at the Dodger roster at the time, I thought I was going to make a career out of Triple-A baseball,” Hernandez said. “(President of baseball operations) Andrew Friedman got on the phone with me and said their plans were real with me. They were looking for players like me as far as playing different positions. And I was saying to myself, ‘Alright, sure. I’ll believe it when I see it.’

“A decade later, here we are.”

Hernandez got his fair share of chances in 2015, playing in 76 games and getting 202 at-bats during that time. He posted a .836 OPS in his role, and served as a valuable player for that team’s depth. He stayed in LA through the 2020 season, after which he left for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox traded Hernandez back to the Dodgers midway through 2023, and he has served as a rotational player since.

The utility man has always shown up in the postseason, and 2025 isn’t any different for the 34-year-old. He was a huge part of the Dodgers’ Wild Card series win over the Cincinnati Reds, and is 5-for-16 (.313) with four RBIs through four postseason games.

The Dodgers will hope he can keep putting up numbers for the remainder of the postseason as they look to defend their 2024 World Series title.
