There have been few rumors regarding possible suitors for former San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez, who is still available on the free-agent market. That may be about to change.

MLB Network’s Mark Feinsand reported that Arraez has received multiple offers from interested teams, including one-year and multiyear contracts. Feinsand also reported that Arraez prefers to return to second base, which could be the “determining factor” in his decision.

One of the most polarizing players in baseball, Arraez is a throwback type of player. A three-time All-Star, Arraez won three consecutive batting titles from 2022 through 2024 and led the National League in hits over the past two seasons. He posted a .292/.317/.392 batting line in his 675 plate appearances, hitting eight homers and 30 doubles.

Arraez’s performance in 2025 also shows his limitations. He makes a lot of contact, striking out just 21 times, but also drew only 34 walks. Arraez had a lot of weak contact, ranking in the first percentile in hard-hit rate (16.7%) and barrel rate (1.1%) and in the sixth percentile in average exit velocity (86.1 mph). 

Arraez is limited defensively as well. He is considered to have cost his teams six runs during his time at second, but he is regarded as a better defensive option at first. The problem is that his offensive ceiling is not a good fit at a traditional power spot in the lineup. 

Despite those flaws, Arraez can be useful in the right fit. Teams that value contact, or need a steady option in the lineup, could value what Arraez has to offer. Several teams could be a possible fit. It may be a matter of which one of those options is willing to let Arraez return to his preferred defensive home at second base.
