The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to do something that no team has done in the world of baseball in a quarter-century — win a World Series title in consecutive years.
The San Diego Padres are trying to do something that has been unattainable since 2006 — win the National League West.

The NL West has been dominated by the Dodgers since 2013, as they have been the divisional champions every year except 2021, the season the San Francisco Giants won the division by one game before losing to L.A. in the NLDS.
As the division has heated up in recent years with the Dodgers and Padres emerging as the most feared contenders from the West, one of San Diego’s superstars believes that the division can be won in 2025.
Manny Machado, a former Dodger and current Padres third baseman, claims that this will be the season that the Friars overtake their rivals and win the division. When asked if San Diego could run the NL West this year by MLB veteran and current MLB Network analyst Yonder Alonso, Machado answered confidently.
“Absolutely,” said the infielder. “What we did last year as an organization and as a team, you know, a lot of people didn’t expect that from us. We overcame a lot of things, a lot of adversity and built something pretty special here. Coming into this season, we’ve got the same squad going out, we are missing some pieces that left but with the team we got in there we’re ready to compete.
“We’re ready to handle some unfinished business that we have.”

The unfinished business in question is the Game 5 loss to the Dodgers in last season’s NLDS.
The Padres have made significant roster moves without a doubt, but the kind of improvement that the Dodgers have made coming off of a championship is unprecedented in this sport.
The Cy Young award winners, MVPs, and international phenoms that are all rostered in Los Angeles will do whatever they can to make history this season, and do everything in their power to ensure that the Padres don’t write a new chapter of their own.
