After losing to the New York Yankees in the American League wild-card round (2-1) last season, the Boston Red Sox have done well this offseason to revamp their roster to take down the Yankees and the Blue Jays.
The Red Sox were unable to re-sign third baseman Alex Bregman, who signed with the Chicago Cubs (five years, $175 million), but landed free-agent left-hander Ranger Suarez (five years, $130 million) to be their No. 2 behind Garrett Crochet. The Red Sox are still a bat short in their lineup, with openings at third and second base.
After losing out on Bregman and Bo Bichette, who signed with the New York Mets (three years, $126 million), baseball insider and “Leadoff Spot” host Steve Phillips feels the Red Sox should “pivot” to trading for All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams of the Washington Nationals.
