With most eyes on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoring 35 points in the NBA Finals, it may have been easy to miss the other former Wildcat baller who was putting up big numbers on Friday night. Rhyne Howard scored 36 for the Atlanta Dream in their 88-70 victory over the Chicago Sky. More impressively, though, she tied an NBA record with nine 3-pointers in the game, becoming only the fifth player ever to achieve such a feat.
Who needs Caitlin Clark when you have Rhyne Howard?
She wasn’t exactly chucking up 3s recklessly either. She finished the game 9-19 from behind the arc, good for a 47.4 percent clip. Howard also had a complete game, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out four assists. The win improves the Dream’s record to 7-3 on the year.
After the game, Howard boasted about her big night in the most modest and chill way possible. When given the compliment, “It is your world and we are just living in it,” she responded with a smile, “You said it. If you’re saying it’s my world, then it’s my world.”
After claiming she holds herself to a high standard and hasn’t been living up to it recently, she continued, “All-Star voting just started, so if you needed any reason to vote for me, I feel like I gave you that tonight.”
