If a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is signed in time, the 2026 WNBA Draft will be held on April 13. And while a lot of familiar names definitely top the list of potential draftees (including Olivia Miles, Awa Fam, and Azzi Fudd), representatives from several teams have also been flocking to Richmond games to see senior forward Maggie Doogan play for the Spiders.
Doogan hasn’t shied away from the attention. As reported by USA Today Sports, she recorded 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting the same day three representatives from the league came to see the Spiders play, and she’s showing little sign of slowing down anytime soon. She also became the third player in program history to score 2,000 career points, a feat that her coach praised.
“People don’t realize, like, this was done in four years, right? This is not 2,000 points over five years,” Richmond coach Aaron Roussell told USA Today Sports. “It was just a calm. She made the right decisions, and it helps when you’re making shots. Just really, really proud of her overall, what she’s done at this level and what she’s done for this program. It’s really hard to top.”
Maggie Doogan could become the first Richmond player to be drafted
Doogan would become the first player from Richmond to be drafted into the WNBA if selected by a team this April. As USA Today Sports also noted, her game bears more than a passing resemblance to that of Maddie Siegrist, who now plays for the Dallas Wings. Per the outlet, one WNBA representative insisted Doogan will definitely not be available during the third round of the draft, a strong sign that teams are considering adding her to a roster this year.
The 2026 WNBA Draft will be exciting to watch
At this point in the season, most mock drafts have Olivia Miles and Awa Fam trading out the No. 1 overall spot. Fam hails from Spain, where she plays professionally, and Miles infamously opted to forego the WNBA Draft last year and to transfer from Notre Dame to TCU.
The duo are joined by UConn’s Azzi Fudd, UCLA’s Lauren Betts, and LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson. All three are expected to be first round draft picks, as are Kiki Rice (UCLA), Ta’Niya Latson (South Carolina), Gabriela Jaquez (UCLA), Nell Angloma (France), and UCLA’s Gianna Kneepkens. It’s unclear where exactly Doogan could be drafted, but her potential is exciting.
