The ongoing beef between Rudy Gobert and Shaq has been reignited once again following some controversial comments made by the former Lakers star about the Timberwolves big man.
During a recent appearance on a video for Complex, Shaq was asked to name the worst player in NBA history, to which he quickly responded with “Rudy Gobert.”
Shaq didn’t hold back in his explanation, criticizing Gobert for his lucrative contract of $250 million and questioning his worth as a player. Shaq emphasized the physical toll that playing basketball at a high level had taken on his own body due to his $120 million contract, suggesting that players like Gobert who “can’t play” don’t deserve the salaries they receive.
Despite the backlash from some for his comments, Shaq stood by his remarks, claiming they were based on facts and highlighting the disparity in pay between athletes and essential workers like teachers, firemen, and doctors.
In response to Shaq’s comments, Gobert took to social media to express his disappointment in the former player’s focus on wealth and achievements as a measure of success, implying that Shaq should be above such pettiness given his own accomplishments in sports and business.
Shaq’s critique of Gobert dates back to 2020 when the center signed a sizable contract, with Shaq suggesting that Gobert doesn’t earn his money through hard work.
Furthermore, Gobert has also faced criticism from other NBA players like Draymond Green, who famously clashed with him on the court, adding to the scrutiny the Frenchman has endured.
