Sabrina Ionescu found inspiration from Oregon’s victory over Ohio State to influence her choice of attire for Game 2 of the WNBA Finals against the Minnesota Lynx. The New York Liberty guard wore special shoes in honor of her alma mater’s success.
Following the Ducks’ win over Ohio State, Coach Dan Lanning and the team maintained their undefeated record, improving to 6-0 for the season. Ionescu, a former Oregon basketball player, opted to wear her custom green-and-yellow Sabrina 2 shoes in celebration of the significant triumph.
The positive energy from her shoes seemed to work wonders as Ionescu contributed 15 points to lead the Liberty to an 80-66 victory over the Lynx, tying the series at 1-1 as they head to Minnesota.
In addition to her scoring, Ionescu also recorded five assists and four rebounds in the game.
After the game, Ionescu explained her decision to wear the special Oregon-themed shoes for Game 2.
“After watching the game and witnessing their remarkable victory, I was inspired to wear my Oregon shoes to channel the tough and gritty spirit that led to their success at Autzen Stadium. It was a significant win for our program, and I wanted to embody that in my own performance,” Ionescu shared with the media.
She expressed her intention to continue wearing the same shoes for the upcoming game on Wednesday, highlighting the resilience and unity displayed by the Oregon team.
With New York aiming for their first WNBA title, the Liberty will face the Lynx in Minneapolis for Game 3 on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET, airing on ESPN.
