They start off by discussing how a broken toe ultimately led Richards-Ross to decide to retire. She goes on to talk about how she started envisioning her future, including becoming a parent, writing books, and starting her own business.
Richards-Ross noticed the struggles that other athletes faced during retirement and decided to seek help from a sports psychologist. This helped her shift her perspective on retirement into something positive.
“What can I do to ensure that this transition isn’t a failure?” the four-time Olympic gold medalist recalls asking herself. “I am moving on to something where I can be just as successful and find equal fulfillment.”
