Dallas Wings forward Satou Sabally has become a sought-after player in the WNBA trade market as she gets ready to depart from the Texas team this offseason. Speculations are rife about her next destination, with many suggesting a potential move to Indiana in exchange for forward NaLyssa Smith, who is in the final year of her contract.
IndyStar’s Chloe Peterson recently discussed Sabally’s situation and the rumored move to Indiana. During a media conference for Unrivaled, Sabally confirmed her impending departure.
Peterson’s report indicates that the Indiana Fever may acquire Sabally by offering NaLyssa Smith, who inked a three-year, $226,668 contract with the Fever in 2022. Smith has shown concerns about reduced playing time in the upcoming WNBA season and might view a trade to Dallas as a potential solution.
Furthermore, with Smith’s contract expiring soon, and her 2025 salary estimated at around $90,000, the Wings may find it enticing to engage in a trade with the Fever to prevent losing their second overall pick from the 2020 draft for nothing.
New York Liberty could be a potential landing spot for Satou Sabally
Satou Sabally’s market value has soared in recent days after her announcement of not returning to the Dallas Wings this season. Having been with the Texas team since entering the league in 2020, Sabally seems prepared to explore new opportunities this year.
While teams like the Chicago Sky, Indiana Fever, and New York Liberty have been linked to her, the Liberty stands out as an attractive option for Sabally. Joining the reigning champions would reunite her with former Oregon teammate Sabrina Ionescu. The pair has already been selected to represent Phantom BC in the upcoming 3×3 league “Unrivaled,” commencing on Jan. 17.
However, for them to team up in the WNBA, the Liberty would need to present a compelling trade package to the Wings, considering the competition for Sabally’s acquisition.
