ScottishPower, a leading renewable energy firm, has announced a significant expansion in its support for women’s and girls’ football by sponsoring all Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) senior cup competitions. The four separate trophy competitions are open to over 75 senior female teams from across the country that are not part of the ScottishPower Scottish Women’s Premier league.
The exclusive sponsorship was unveiled at Riverside Park in Dundee, where the first ever Scottish Women’s Cup final took place in 1970. This move solidifies ScottishPower’s position as the most prolific sponsor of women’s football in Scotland.
This announcement coincides with the recent 50-year anniversary of the Scottish Football Association lifting its ban on women’s football and officially recognizing the Scottish Women’s Football Association.
The notable deal will see the four SWF competitions renamed as follows:
- The ScottishPower National League Cup – previously the Championship & League One Cup
- The ScottishPower Regional League Cup – previously the SWFL Cup
- The ScottishPower Regional League Plate – previously the SWFL Plate
- The ScottishPower Highlands & Islands Cup – previously the Highlands & Islands League Cup
ScottishPower is already the exclusive Principal Partner for Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) and the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL), sponsor of the Scottish Youth Challenge Cups at all three age groups, and the first-ever title sponsor of the Scottish Women’s Highlands and Islands League.

Aileen Campbell, CEO of Scottish Women’s Football, applauded ScottishPower for expanding their support to senior cup competitions, noting the significance of having a title sponsor for all senior cups for the first time in history.
Rose Reilly, a Scottish football legend, who was present at the launch event in Dundee, shared her experiences and reflected on the progress of women’s football over the years.
The event also featured players from different cup holders, showcasing the diversity and talent within women’s football in Scotland.
