Sebastian Fundora stops Chordale Booker in four: highlights and results

Sebastian Fundora (22-1-1, 14 KOs) successfully defended his super welterweight world titles tonight, stopping Chordale Booker (23-2, 11 KOs) in only four rounds of action. Booker would start the fight by using a lot of lateral movement but he struggled to manage the range with the absurdly tall Fundora. Booker was often trying to defend by stepping back but with Fundora’s reach, he was still able to tag him on the outside.

With each passing round Booker was feeling the continual physical pressure applied by Fundora, combined with the mental pressure of knowing he couldn’t easily escape the long arms of Fundora, and also wasn’t able to to beat Fundora at close range either. By the fourth round it was already apparent that Booker was wilting and Fundora landed some shots that had Booker staggering, eventually collapsing to the canvas for a knockdown. Booker would get up to beat the count but was still on unsteady legs, and the follow up attack had Booker unable to defend himself to where the referee would stop the fight at the 2:51 of Round 4.

In the post fight interview Fundora said he would like the opportunity to unify titles with one of the other 154 lb titleholders next as he aims to go undisputed.

Undercard results

Jesus Ramos Jr TKO-7 Guido Schramm. Jesus Ramos Jr (23-1, 19 KOs) had an opponent in Guido Schramm (16-4-2, 9 KOs) who was willing to bring it tonight, despite being heavily outgunned. Ramos would strafe Schramm from early on in the fight, visibly hurting Schramm several times to the body. Despite Schramm being game and willing to hang tough, he would continue to take punishment until he got caught with a big hook in the seventh round that put him out on his feet. The follow up attack from Ramos would force the referee to step in and halt the fight at the 1:38 mark of Round 7. In the post-fight interview Ramos said he’ll be angling for the winner of tonight’s main event.

Elijah Garcia SD-10 Terrell Gausha. Terrell Gausha (24-5-1, 12 KOs) got the short end of the stick in the opening fight of the card, losing a split decision to Elijah Garcia (17-1, 13 KOs) in a fight he really deserved to win. Gausha was painting Garcia with right hands from the opening round and even scored a knocked in the first, and largely continued with the same theme for the rest of the fight. Garcia would continually bring pressure all the way through but he really struggled with defending straight shots, largely due to his inability to keep his head off the line or combat Gausha’s superior timing. Despite that, after the 10 full rounds judges turned in cards of 95-94, 94-95, 96-93 in favor of Garcia. The commentary team for Prime, including Abner Mares who admitted he has a friendship with Garcia, would deride the decision.
