Memphis, TN – The semifinalists are now set at the ITA National Summer Championships powered by WTN, after two rounds of singles play and one round of doubles play at the Leftwich Family Tennis Center today in Memphis, Tennessee.
Starting with singles, the four men’s semifinalists will be the top four seeds of Kenta Miyoshi (Illinois), James Connel (Florida State), Lucas Brown (Texas), and Patorn Hanchaikul (Michigan). Miyoshi and Connel met in the finals of the 2023 ITA National Summer Championships and have the chance to do so again this year if they can get past Brown and Hanchaikul. Across each match for all four semifinalists, no player dropped a set on the day and each looked dominant in their advancement in the tournament.
For the women, in singles, three of the top four seeds advanced to the semifinals as Zuzanna Kubacha (Baylor) was the lone player outside of the top four seeds to make it to the semifinals on either side of play. Kubacha will be joined by Lily Jones (Michigan), Eleana Yu (Duke), and Taylor Cataldi (Wisconsin) who each won two singles matches on the day. For Jones and Cataldi, they both had to survive a third set ten-point tiebreaker in the quarterfinals to keep their hopes of a national championship alive.
Both the men’s and women’s singles semifinals will be played at 9:30 am (EST) tomorrow, with Kenta Miyoshi (1) taking on Lucas Brown (3), James Connel (2) taking on Patorn Hanchaikul (4), Lily Jones (1) taking on Eleana Yu (3), and Taylor Cataldi (4) taking on Zuzanna Kubacha (8).
In today’s doubles quarterfinal action, seeded players found great success just as they have in the singles draw. For the men, the two seeded teams of Poulsen/Miladinovic (Baylor) and Rock/Reeve (Memphis) both earned straight set victories to move on to the semifinals. Joining them in the semifinals will be Connel/Lyons (Florida State) and Lothringer/Silva (Texas A&M).
Women’s doubles saw the pairngs of Jackson/Yu (Duke), Cataldi/Rangan (Wisconsin), Reynoldson/Johnson (Wisconsin), and Pierce/Ricci (Tulane) all advance on Sunday. For Pierce/Ricci, they advanced via walkover, while the remaining three teams each earned straight set victories in the quarterfinals.
The remaining athletes are playing for $20,000 in total prize money, ITA All-American Championship wild cards, and USTA Pro Circuit wild cards with a full breakdown of player payouts and wild card details being found on the ITA National Summer Championship event page.
Play from the Leftwich Tennis Center will continue tomorrow with the singles and doubles semifinals being played throughout the day. Fans can watch the matches through TrackTennis or follow the action on the ITA website or ITA social media accounts.
