WACO, Texas — Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims, who together led Baylor women’s basketball to a historic 40-0 national championship in 2012, are part of the Baylor Athletics 2024 Hall of Fame class that includes eight former student-athletes from seven different sports.
Joining Griner and Sims in this year’s class are Ronnie Allen (track & field), Whitney Canion Reichenstein (softball), Mark Cochran (football), Michael Griffin (baseball), Nina Secerbegovic (women’s tennis), and Ekpe Udoh (men’s basketball).
The 2024 Hall of Fame banquet is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the Hurd Welcome Center Grand Ballroom on the Baylor University campus. More details on ticket prices and reservations for the Hall of Fame banquet will be provided soon.
The Hall of Fame inductees will also be recognized on the field at McLane Stadium during the Baylor-TCU football game on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Established in 1960, the Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame honors individuals whose contributions have strengthened the university’s athletics program. Student-athletes must wait 10 years after completing their eligibility before being eligible for nomination.
Since the first class in 1960, which included coach Floyd “Uncle Jim” Crow and baseball’s Ted Lyons, 273 individuals have been elected to the Hall of Fame.
Brittney Griner, the most decorated athlete in Baylor history, was a three-time National Player of the Year and holds multiple NCAA records in women’s basketball. Odyssey Sims, a three-time All-American, is a key player in Baylor’s success, including their 40-0 national championship season.
Ronnie Allen, the first African American to receive a four-year track scholarship at Baylor, set records during his time with the team. Whitney Canion Reichenstein, a standout pitcher for the softball team, holds numerous pitching records at Baylor.
Mark Cochran, a three-year starter for the Bears football team, was a key player during his time at Baylor. Michael Griffin, a top performer for the baseball team, excelled both on and off the field.
Nina Secerbegovic, a standout player for the women’s tennis team, helped lead Baylor to success on the court. Ekpe Udoh, known as “The Nightmare”, made a significant impact during his time with the men’s basketball team.
