Shaquille O’Neal suggests huge WNBA rule change that will send ratings ‘through the roof’

Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal is once again advocating for the WNBA to lower the rims on hoops. However, the reigning league MVP is not in favor of the idea.

In a recent podcast appearance, O’Neal proposed lowering the rims to generate more attention and revenue by having women dunk, but current MVP A’ja Wilson opposes the concept.

Continuing to push his suggestion, O’Neal called on Wilson to support lowering the rim from its current ten-foot height.

Emphasizing the financial benefits, O’Neal mentioned on Instagram that dunking is a fan favorite and could help the WNBA earn more revenue. He urged Wilson to consider the idea for the benefit of the league.

Regarding the All-Star game, O’Neal expressed confidence that the ratings would soar if the change were implemented.

While adjustments for height differences exist in other sports, basketball has traditionally maintained a consistent playing field for both men and women.

Only a few WNBA players have successfully dunked in the past, including Brittney Griner and Jonquel Jones, while others like Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker, Sylvia Fowles, and Elena Delle Donne have made significant contributions to the league without dunking.
