Even though the Indiana Fever’s 2024 WNBA season concluded in September, discussions about the franchise continue on a daily basis.
The attention on the team is largely due to the star power of Caitlin Clark, who garners a significant amount of interest both on and off the court. Additionally, the recent changes in coaching staff, with Christie Sides being fired and Stephanie White being hired shortly after, have fueled conversations about the Fever.
These events have kept the Fever at the forefront of the women’s basketball community, much like during the active season. Despite WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes making headlines earlier this year with her opinions on Clark and the Fever, she has been silent about Indiana recently.
However, on a November 6 episode of her ‘Levels to This With Sheryl Swoopes and Terrika Foster-Brasby’ podcast, Swoopes did not hold back in criticizing how the franchise handled Kelsey Mitchell.
Swoopes stated, “Personally, here’s where I think [the Fever] didn’t do a very good job, and that was with Kelsey Mitchell, who’s an unrestricted free agent.” She expressed her belief that Mitchell’s outstanding season did not receive the recognition it deserved.
While Mitchell undoubtedly had a great season with Indiana, many fans would argue that she has been duly acknowledged for her contributions to the team’s success.
There is also speculation that Mitchell’s success may be attributed to playing alongside Clark, a perspective that Swoopes may not share.
