For Kate Martin, being selected as the eighteenth overall pick in the second round by the Las Vegas Aces came as a big surprise. She likely attended the ceremony to support her former Iowa teammate and No. 1 pick, Caitlin Clark. Despite signing a rookie contract with the Aces four months ago, Martin is still facing challenges in proving herself in the league.

On August 23rd, Las Vegas Aces guard Kate Martin sat down with Iowa News Now host Owen Siebring to discuss her WNBA season and her future goals. While she hopes for a playoff run with her team, Martin is focused on improving her game individually. Transitioning from a successful college season has been a learning curve for Martin, who recognizes that she has a lot to learn in the professional league.

“The WNBA exposes your weaknesses quickly, but it also highlights your strengths,” she mentions.

Despite her efforts, Martin aims to catch the attention of her coach, Becky Hammon. While she had decent stats before the Olympics, her playing time has decreased post the break, indicating a need for improvement.

Martin boasts an impressive three-point shooting percentage and is eager to showcase her skills given more playing time. Despite the limited opportunities, she has made significant contributions in the games she’s played.

Martin’s focus remains on improving her game and being a reliable team player. Her dedication to her craft and self-assessment are key factors in her development, according to coach Hammon.

Fans continue to support Martin, evident from her jersey sales ranking in the league. Will she be able to achieve her goals? The answer lies in her perseverance and commitment to her game.
