On July 19, 2025, Sinclaire Johnson ran a 4:16.32 in the London Grand Prix Mile, setting an Area record and the National record for the mile! The week prior, in Monaco, Sinclaire had run a 2:31.30 for the 1,000 meters, priming her for a great mile! On the 5th of July, Sinclaire had run a fine 1,500m in 3:56.93, placing sixth in the NIKE Pre Classic (50th anniversary).

This interview was done just after the Mile American record. Paul Moser, NIKE sports marketing manager, was able to get my questions to Sinclaire, who sent them back via email!

At the US Champs, Sinclaire Johnson took second in the 1,500 meters, a quite tactical affair, and won a trip to Tokyo for the 2025 World Championships. In Tokyo, Sinclaire Johnson finished 13th in the Women’s 1,500m final. Not the result she desired, but this women of formidable spirit who was sixth in Eugene WC 2022 and Nanjing Indoor 2025 WC, will be back to battle the best in the world in 2026!

RunBlogRun, # 1. Tell us about the race in London, were you expecting the AR?

Sinclaire Johnson: London DL specifically has been on my bucket list for awhile. The Brits really show out for athletics and I was very excited to compete in front of a sold out 60,000 people crowd! My main goal was to focus on competing, getting out of my comfort zone by attaching myself to the pace early on and always having a fast last 150m. The AR was definitely on my mind, I thought going in it was achievable. The race went about as expected. I wanted to get right behind Jessica Hull because I knew she would commit to the pace. The hot pace caught up to me a little earlier than I would have hoped, but when Sarah Healy and another woman from Italy came around me I was able to regroup and stay with them until kicking it home for 4th.

RunBlogRun, # 2. What does it feel like to run a 4:16 mile?

Sinclaire Johnson: It is definitely hard! But nothing good in running comes easy, so I was prepared to hurt during the race. It definitely feels surreal to have run the fastest time by an American woman ever.

RunBlogRun, #3 How has your training been going, and how are you preparing for the USATf Champs?

Sinclaire Johnson: Training has been going really well. Things are starting to really click and I think the weeks of consistency with training is starting to compound! Since I just had a big racing block with 3 races in 3 weeks, most of my prep now is staying sharp, getting in some aerobic work and most importantly recovering from the past few weeks of travel and racing.

RunBlogRun, # 4. You have had some amazing races so far in 2025, what is your favorite?

Sinclaire Johnson: The mile in London! I really loved the atmosphere of the competition and running an American record definitely adds a cherry on top.

RunBlogRun, # 5. What workout do you do, that you know is good for you, that you might not like?

Sinclaire Johnson: Honestly an easy run. That sounds silly, but I truly enjoy every track workout I do whether it’s monotonous aerobic work or VO2 work that is a grind. I love pushing myself and working hard in practice. Sometimes it’s the easy slow miles that are important for recovery and general running economy that are the hardest for me to get out the door.

RunBlogRun, # 6. What was your first race that you remember?

Sinclaire Johnson: A cross country race in elementary school that was maybe 1.5 miles on grass! I remember it being really hard and never wanting to do another race again after I finished lol.

RunBlogRun, # 7. Did you like cross country running in high school at first?

Sinclaire Johnson: I didn’t like cross country when I first started in high school. I think that was because the reason I was doing it was to stay in shape for the lacrosse season in the spring. Over the years I grew to like cross country– it had more of a team aspect involved and it really tested your mental ability to withstand being uncomfortable.

RunBlogRun, # 8. What shoes do you train in, what do you race in?

Sinclaire Johnson: I train in a variety of shoes! My favorite shoe to train in for easy runs is the Nike Structure 26 and for track workouts it’s the Nike Streakfly 2. As for racing, I prefer to race in the Nike Dragonfly Elite.

RunBlogRun # 9. What did your coach tell you just prior to the race in London?

Sinclaire Johnson: My coach is also my fiance (Craig Nowak) which has been a special partnership this year! He told me to trust my fitness, be aggressive off the line and to go get ’em!!
