Sky rookie Angel Reese has been named WNBA Player of the Week, as reported by NBC Sports Chicago.
The WNBA announced on Tuesday that Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese received the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award for the games played between June 27 and July 7.
During these five games, Reese averaged 16.8 points, 14 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
On Sunday, Reese achieved her 13th consecutive double-double, breaking the previous WNBA record held by Chicago’s Candace Parker.
Prior to this, Reese had already set the record for most double-doubles in a single season. Following Sunday’s performance, she now holds the league’s all-time record, surpassing Parker’s accomplishment in parts of the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Reese currently leads the entire league in rebounds per game with an average of 11.9.
Having been recognized as the league’s top rookie for the month of June, Reese secured her spot in the WNBA All-Star Game on July 2.
“They just told me I’m an All-Star. I’m just so happy,” Reese expressed after the game. “I know the work I’ve put in. Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate. I trust the process and I’m thankful I landed with Chicago. It’s a blessing, and I can’t thank my teammates and coaches enough for believing in me.”
