Angel Reese is being touted as the WNBA Rookie of the Year, declared by her teammate Chennedy Carter from the Sky.
In a recent game against the Seattle Storm, Reese, the first-year professional player, scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, securing her 12th consecutive double-double of the season as the Sky emerged victorious with a score of 88-84.
Reese has matched Candace Parker’s record for the longest streak of double-doubles dating back to the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Carter, who contributed 33 points for the Sky during the same game, strongly believes that Reese rightfully deserves the top spot for the Rookie of the Year title.
After the game, Carter expressed her opinion, stating, “Barbie’s Rookie of the Year. There’s no other way to put it. She goes out, she does her work every single night, no matter what team we’re facing. I’m telling you, Barbie’s Rookie of the Year, for sure.”
While Reese made history on Friday night, supporters of Caitlin Clark may have a different perspective on who should be crowned Rookie of the Year following Clark’s remarkable performance on Saturday.
Clark achieved the first-ever triple-double by a WNBA rookie in a surprising win against the Liberty, registering 19 points during the game.
Heading into Saturday, Reese has been averaging 13.9 points and leading the league with 11.7 rebounds per game.
Throughout the season, the duo of Reese and Clark has been closely compared, driving record viewership due to the emerging rivalry between them.
Clark’s popularity, including the significant crowd turnout during a game in Las Vegas, led to her receiving the highest number of All-Star fan votes among rookies, totaling 700,735.
Both rookies are set to play for Team WNBA in the All-Star game scheduled for July 20.
