CHICAGO — Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese made history on Sunday by becoming the first player in WNBA history to record at least 20 rebounds in three consecutive games. Despite her impressive performance on the glass, the Sky lost to the Las Vegas Aces on a buzzer-beater by A’ja Wilson.
Reese, who shot 4-of-16, finished the game with 11 points, a career-high 22 rebounds, and two blocks. She played a significant role in the Sky’s second-half comeback, which ultimately fell short in the final moments.
Only four other players have achieved three 20-rebound games in their careers, with Tina Charles and Jonquel Jones being the only other players to do so in the same season. Reese is now tied for fourth all-time in that category after her recent performances.
Currently averaging 12.9 rebounds per game, Reese leads the league and is on track to set the highest single-season rebound average in WNBA history, surpassing the previous record of 12 rebounds per game.
Highest rebounding averages in WNBA history
Reese’s dominance extends to offensive rebounds, with her 5.2 offensive rebounds per game leading the league. This stat could potentially break the record for the best single-season average ever, narrowly edging out Yolanda Griffith’s 5.1.
With only a few more games left in the season, Reese is poised to break the single-season records for total rebounds and offensive rebounds. She needs just 31 rebounds to surpass Fowles for the total rebounding mark and 11 offensive boards to beat Griffith for the offensive rebounding mark.
