Despite the introduction of the new Unrivaled women’s basketball league this season, many top WNBA players are still choosing to spend their offseason competing overseas.
Numerous WNBA players, such as Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith of the Indiana Fever, as well as Kamilla Cardoso and Chennedy Carter of the Sky, are currently participating in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) during the winter.
The WCBA is known as one of the most competitive professional women’s basketball leagues outside the United States, but this hasn’t hindered these players from delivering outstanding performances.
Chennedy Carter, for example, wasted no time updating her fans about her recent exploits in a social media post.
“First shot overseas was a 3-pointer and 1 🤭🔥 @ the half 4/6 from deep!” Carter shared on Wednesday.
Although not confirmed, Carter mentioning her first-half stats in the game hints that she may have posted this update during halftime while in the locker room.
Around two hours later, Carter added, “and the win vs Inner Mongolia”.
While the final statistical performance of Carter in the victorious game is unknown, it’s no surprise that she excelled for her Wuhan Shengfan team. Last offseason, Carter also played in the WCBL for Heilongjiang and averaged an impressive 28.9 points per game in 14 appearances.
Perhaps her success in China last season provided Carter with the confidence to emerge as one of the most improved players in the WNBA with the Sky in 2024.
Carter is currently a free agent in the WNBA and could either return to Chicago in 2025 or join a new team next year.
