Just hours into its Early Access release, Mega Crit’s latest roguelike deckbuilder, Slay the Spire 2 has managed to shatter the roguelike player count record on Steam. Sequel to the genre-defining roguelike deckbuilder, Slay the Spire, the game was one of the most anticipated games of 2026. And with fans eagerly waiting at the virtual checkout on release day, the game instantly blew past the previous record set by Mewgenics.

Slay the Spire 2 player count
While the game is early into its life-cycle, it has already peaked at a massive 177k concurrent players. The high count, not only makes it the new record holder amongst roguelikes, it also blows past the previous peaks in the genre. Hades 2 previously set a high of 112k players in February, and recent hit Mewgenics followed up with a 115k record on launch weekend. Even the previous entry in the franchise, Slay the Spire, managed to garner just 57k players at peak, and that came during a massive sale.
