A cold-shooting afternoon just never got much better for the Indiana Fever.
The Connecticut Sun spoiled the WNBA Playoffs debut for Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever. The Sun captured Game 1 of their WNBA Playoffs series versus the Fever, 93-69, from inside Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday.
After Boston’s layup put the Fever in front 36-34, the Sun closed the first half on a 12-2 run to gain control. Connecticut never looked back from there.
Connecticut forward Alyssa Thomas registered her fourth career playoffs triple-double with 12 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Sun guard Marina Mabrey added 27 points, a WNBA Playoffs record for a player off the bench.
Clark finished with 11 points, eight assists, four rebounds, three steals and one block in her playoffs debut. But, the 6-foot rookie guard shot just 4-of-17 from the floor and 2-of-13 from 3-point range.
Mitchell led the Fever with 21 points on 9-of-20 shooting, but she also connected on just 2-of-10 3-point tries. Boston registered a double-double in her playoffs debut, tallying 17 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
The Fever will look to stave off elimination and force the series back to Indiana on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
Here’s what some of the social media reaction to Clark and the Fever’s WNBA Playoffs debut looked like.
