After a disappointing 2025 WNBA season, which was cut short due to an injury, Sophie Cunningham remains a well-known face for fans around the world. The Indiana Fever veteran earned more supporters during her first campaign alongside Caitlin Clark.
The offseason has brought up multiple questions regarding the future of the league. Meanwhile, Cunningham will join a new league set to launch late in 2026. Not everything is positive for the former Phoenix Mercury star, as she announced personal struggles on Saturday.
Cunningham told fans that she was dealing with food poisoning while she tried to fly back home.
“Had food poising all night. Can’t keep anything down now. Trying to fly home. Body is shaking and can barely move. HELP,” Cunningham captioned the post.
Sophie Cunningham arrived in Indiana after the Fever traded for her in the 2025 offseason. She played 30 games, averaging 8.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game, shooting 46.9% from the field, 43.2% from deep and 87.5% from the free-throw line.
She embraced her role of enforcer and defended Caitlin Clark whenever opponents tried to get under the former No. 1 overall pick’s skin. It’s unclear if Cunningham will extend her stay in Indiana, but she made a strong impression during her first campaign with the Fever.
