According to sources, the Celtics have signed Jordan Schakel to an Exhibit 10 contract on Wednesday. The 26-year-old guard played for Maine last season after initially signing a training camp contract in September. He averaged 13.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 40.2% from three on 7.3 attempts per game.
This move completes Boston’s offseason roster for now, with Lonnie Walker IV, Ron Harper Jr., Tristan Enaruna, and Schakel all signing Exhibit 10 contracts, giving the Celtics a total of 21 contracts. Exhibit 10 players have non-guaranteed contracts and can be waived at any time, receiving a bonus for spending a certain amount of time with the G-League affiliate team. Therefore, Schakel is expected to return to Maine in the 2024-25 season.
Originally from California, Schakel played four seasons at San Diego State before going undrafted in 2021. He was part of the Sacramento Kings Summer League team that won the championship that year, then signed with Washington where he appeared in six NBA games over two seasons. In 2022-23, he split his time between the Wizards and Warriors’ G-League affiliates, shooting 38.5% from three. During his college career, he shot nearly 43% from beyond the arc.
Schakel missed the remainder of Maine’s season after his last game on Jan. 24 due to a knee injury, and also missed three games in December. During the summer, he played for Leones de Ponce in Puerto Rico alongside former NBA player Kenneth Faried, averaging 8.3 points per game in eight appearances.
Despite Jay Scrubb’s ACL surgery this fall, the Celtics still plan to sign him to an Exhibit 10 contract once he recovers, as previously reported. This will require waiving one of their current Exhibit 10 signings.
