South Carolina basketball alum Kamilla Cardoso faced a delayed start to her professional career due to a shoulder injury. However, with 22 games under her belt, the two-time National Champion is finding her groove as a WNBA rookie.
During a game on Friday night against the Connecticut Sun, Cardoso had a stellar performance, scoring a career-high 18 points on 8-11 shooting. She also contributed 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal, despite teammate Angel Reese dominating the boards with a remarkable 20 rebounds.
Cardoso and Reese’s efforts weren’t enough to secure a win for the Chicago Sky, as they fell to the Sun 82-80. However, the duo helped the Sky win the rebounding battle 42-30 and outscored the Sun 42-34 in the paint.
Since the WNBA’s hiatus for the Summer Olympics, Cardoso has been playing consistently well, setting personal scoring records and shooting over 50% in each game.
The Sky are vying for a spot in the postseason as they currently hold the 8-seed in the standings (with eight teams making the playoffs).
Cardoso and the Sky will play again on Sunday at Wintrust Arena against the Las Vegas Aces, led by South Carolina legend A’ja Wilson.
