Honkai: Star Rail 3.3 has replaced the voice actors for Caelus and Stelle, the male and female versions of the game’s main character, better known as Trailblazer.
Caleb Yen and Rachael Chau, who’ve played the roles since HSR launched in 2023, did not participate in any recent recording sessions for the turn-based RPG out of solidarity with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, leading to their character remaining silent for the past couple of updates.
Speculation around their replacement flared up following the release of Hyacine’s character trailer, which contains an appearance by an unfamiliar-sounding Caelus.
The HSR 3.3 patch notes have now confirmed the decision to replace the duo, which must not have been easy for anyone involved. Players can hear the new voices when using Trailblazer (Remembrance) in battle and in the new main story missions. The other forms of the character as well as older missions will be converted to the new voices over time.
“Adjusts the character Trailblazer (Remembrance: Ice)’s combat lines, dialogue lines for the Version 3.3 Trailblaze Mission, and As I’ve Written resources for the male and female Trailblazers when the voice language is set to English. Other voice resources will be adjusted in the future. Please refer to the corresponding version announcements,” the patch notes stated.
Though this is undoubtedly an unfortunate situation that’s bound to upset people, fans need to remember that this is not an easy situation to navigate for the VAs or the companies involved, making it all the more imperative to stay civil with everyone.
HoYoverse’s recording partners have been very active in getting muted characters voiced again for all of its games this year, following growing unrest in the community about the situation and the decreasing public support for the strike. Genshin Impact saw the replacement of Kinich’s VA, while Lycaon, Koleda, Grace, and Rina have been recast in Zenless Zone Zero.
