The WNBA season concluded with an epic Finals series that went to five games, with the New York Liberty defeating the Minnesota Lynx in overtime to claim their first championship. The NBA season began shortly after with a TNT doubleheader featuring top stars like LeBron James and Anthony Edwards.
The Golden State Warriors had to wait an extra day before starting their season, but Steph Curry was in the midst of the action thanks to his friendship with Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu.
Curry and Ionescu have been friends since her high school days, and Curry has been a vocal supporter of her career. They even had a memorable three-point contest at the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.
After Ionescu won her first championship, Curry congratulated her and they FaceTimed during the Liberty’s celebration. Ionescu mentioned that Curry was the only non-family member she spoke to during the chaos of winning a title.
The relationship between Curry and Ionescu showcases the bond between two of the best basketball players in the world who are now both champions. Perhaps Curry will convince Ionescu to join the Golden State Valkyries in the future…
