Steph Curry Explains How His Offseason Prep Changed Entering Year 17

Steph Curry is entering his 17th NBA season, and like his game, his approach to staying at the top has evolved.

The 37-year-old Warriors guard spent the summer balancing a book release, a youth camp, and a trip to China with a conditioning plan designed to keep him sharp for another grueling 82-game stretch. That plan, he explained, looks nothing like it did when he broke into the league in 2009.

“It’s evolved based on trying to be more efficient with the work that you get in and more intentional about how each day is designed on-court, off-court,” Curry said at Warriors Media Day.

Curry now leans on advanced tracking tools that help him monitor his body and prevent unnecessary wear and tear.

“All those type[s] of things that help monitor the output that you have over the summer so that you’re working smarter and coming into camp fresh knowing that there’s still a little bit of building to go,” Curry explained. “But that I’m in pretty good shape where you’re not putting your body through any unnecessary stress with that transition from off-season to in-season.”

The balance of his training has shifted dramatically as he’s gotten older.

“Probably the first decade was more on-court than off-court and that’s actually flipped now where it’s probably 60-40 off-court to on-court percentage now,” Curry noted.

The results have been clear. Curry has logged 70-plus games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2017, giving Golden State confidence in his durability even as he pushes toward his late thirties.

His numbers remain elite. Last season, Curry averaged 24.5 points on 44.8 percent shooting and once again led the NBA in three-pointers made and attempted per game.

As he heads into another year, the focus for Curry is not about reinventing his skillset but about sustaining excellence.

For the Warriors’ franchise cornerstone, evolution is the key to longevity.
