Steph Curry has inked a significant one-year contract extension with Golden State, totaling $62.6 million, ensuring his presence in The Bay until the 2026-27 NBA season. Despite this record-breaking deal, Curry’s mindset remains steadfast.
As the first American team-sport professional athlete to earn over $60 million in a single season, Curry remains focused on his ultimate goal of winning. “It’s still about winning and taking the steps necessary to give ourselves a chance,” he shared with The Athletic. “The standard hasn’t changed. The expectation hasn’t changed.”
Despite the Warriors’ absence from the playoffs last year and the challenge of Klay Thompson’s injury, they have bolstered their lineup with additions like Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson.
With his contract extension, rumors of Curry joining the Lakers or leaving for a more successful team have been quelled. “It’s not different from my perspective,” Curry affirmed. “You have an appreciation for the position and the opportunity and the support from people who’ve been with you on the journey.”
At 39 by the end of his new contract, Curry could still have a lot to offer, similar to LeBron James’ current age. Golden State’s challenge now lies in building a championship-caliber team around Curry, a task they are actively pursuing with potential trades for players like Paul George and Lauri Markkanen.
