Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White provided an injury update on Caitlin Clark, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham on Saturday.
The Indiana Fever’s WNBA season has been marred by injuries, but head coach Stephanie White has finally delivered some optimistic updates.
Star player Caitlin Clark, sidelined with a left quad strain, will be out for at least two more weeks. Although her exact comeback is still up in the air, hopes are high for a June return. Before her injury, Clark was on fire, averaging 19 points, 6 rebounds, and leading the league with 9.3 assists over four games.
Veterans Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham have also been missing in action due to injuries sustained in last week’s defeat against the Connecticut Sun. Colson suffered a leg injury, while Cunningham aggravated a preexisting ankle condition.

However, this week brought a positive spin from Coach White regarding their conditions. “We got good news from both of their MRIs, as good of news as you can get,” White said with a note of relief.
“So right now, it’s a day-to-day thing. We’re looking forward to, hopefully, them returning at some point sooner rather than later. But at the same time, it’s how each of them progresses in their rehab and in their return to the court action.”
White specifically mentioned that Colson has shown significant improvement during her recovery. “Syd’s been progressing really quickly,” she noted.
“She’s going to get out there and get some shots up too, so we’ll see where she stands when she comes back after her recovery from today, make sure we don’t have any setbacks, and then we’ll see where she is tomorrow.”
The team also gave forward Damiris Dantas a break from practice, but White clarified it was merely a safety measure.

“Just a rest day for DD,” White elaborated. “She’s got a lot of miles on, and [we’re] making sure she gets a little bit of rest. She’s had a little bit of soreness in her lower body, so [we] don’t want that to create or turn into anything.”
The Fever have had to think outside the box with their rotation and roster as injuries continue to mount. On Saturday, the team signed former No. 3 overall pick Aari McDonald to a hardship contract to help bolster the backcourt.
White conceded the team’s management has been working tirelessly to keep things running smoothly.
“Trying to figure out all of our options,” White responded candidly. “From potential hardship contracts and players and who’s available to how [we are] with our coaches, really. How we reimagine how we’re using our players. So we’ve had a good opportunity in practice today to get a lot of different looks.”
The Fever next take on the Washington Mystics as they strive to regroup and remain competitive while waiting for their stars – including Clark – to return.
