The Golden State Warriors may have moved on from Andrew Wiggins, but the love and respect for him remain unchanged. After the much-anticipated Warriors vs. Miami Heat clash, Wiggins reunited with his former teammates for the first time since the controversial trade that sent Jimmy Butler III to Golden State.
It was a touching moment that Wiggins and Warriors fans will cherish for a long time.
Andrew Wiggins Meets His Former Teammates
Wiggins’ departure from the Warriors was part of a blockbuster trade that sent Jimmy Butler III to Golden State. In exchange, the Warriors dealt Wiggins, Kyle Anderson and a top-10 protected first-round pick to the Heat.
The move sparked mixed reactions, given Wiggins’ popularity among Warriors fans and his crucial role in the team’s success. On March 25, he faced his former team for the first time. While the battle on the court was intense, postgame emotions took over.
Stephen Curry and Draymond Green were seen cheerfully chatting with Wiggins before embracing him in a tight hug.

Before the matchup, Wiggins reflected on his time in Golden State. Speaking to NBC Sports Bay Area, he expressed his appreciation for the organization:
“I had a great time there. I love and appreciate everybody. Great fans. My teammates were great, the coaching staff was great. The city, meeting new people and building new relationships. I had a great time. Great time. Great time with the organization.”
Even Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had high praise for Wiggins ahead of their reunion:
“We can’t wait to see him (Wiggins) tomorrow, and hopefully he doesn’t give us 42 (points), but I root for that guy and I will for the rest of his career. Everybody loves Wiggs. Just an incredible human being, and we miss him around here.”
Despite the emotional reunion, Wiggins had a quiet night on the court, finishing with 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Andrew Wiggins Leaves Lasting Legacy In Golden State
The Warriors-Heat trade marked the end of an era for Wiggins in Golden State—one that began in February 2020, when he was acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for D’Angelo Russell. At first, many doubted whether Wiggins could thrive alongside Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, but he proved his critics wrong in 2022.
That year, Wiggins earned his first All-Star selection and played a pivotal role in the Warriors’ NBA championship run. In Game 4 of the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, he delivered a dominant performance, grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds and scoring 17 points to secure a must-win victory.
In Game 5, he elevated his game further, finishing with 26 points and 13 rebounds in a statement performance. His efforts helped the Warriors clinch their fourth championship in eight years, solidifying his legacy in Golden State. Over 307 games with the franchise, Wiggins averaged 16.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists, per StatMuse.
Though he now wears a different jersey, Wiggins’ bond with the Warriors remains strong. And as seen in Miami, his former teammates still hold him in the highest regard.
